A Dog's Prayer

No matter what your situation, a dog will always be there for you. In bad times, he/she can be a source of comfort. In good times, they will enjoy them along with you! I've had several dogs though out my life and felt a mutual love for all of them. There is nothing is this world like the unconditional love that a dog has for his/her master.

I had a dog, Woofie, a Keeshound, (pictured bottom), who was my companion for almost 16 years! When it came time to say goodbye to him for the last time, (it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life!). A friend gave me this prayer for dogs during my time of grief, and it really touched my heart. Keep in mind that the word dog is 'god' spelled backwards.

A Dog's Prayer:

My beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for I should lick your hand between the blows. Your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the worlds sweetest
music. As you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. When it is cold and wet, please do take me inside, for I am
a domesticated animal. No longer used to bitter elements,
and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at
your feet beside the hearth. Though you had no home, I
should prefer to follow you through ice and snow, rather
than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in the
land. Keep my pan filled with fresh water for, although I
should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when
I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well,
to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your
side, and stay ready willing and able to protect you with
my life, should your life be in danger.
And master, when I am very old, and deprived of my
health, and sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather,
take my trusting life gently, and I shall leave you knowing
with the last breath I draw, my fate was always safest in
your hands. Amen

My current best buddy, Smokey, (pictured top), is an Australian Shepherd mix. He is a constant source of entertainment and companionship. We have a special bond that only a man and his dog can share.
Here's to all the dogs our there;.... may you be lucky enough to have a master who loves you as much as you love them.

  1. One of the things I most admire in you is love and respect you have with nature. We always share love for our pets. I'm glad to hear that you are not alone because Smokey is your friend. I know what that means, because Lola loves me. And I love you.

  2. Sissy my darling,

I'm glad that we both have our pets to keep us company and give us love. I did have a cat once too, and maybe I will do a blog about 'Nellie' someday. Unfortunately I have no pictures of her...snifff.
It is an honor to know you and have you in my life Sissy. I will always love you.

  3. Craig - very nice sentiments - I know that you are a true animal lover - we are taking special care of Sam right now as she is not in good health - one day at a time - it is sad
